Recent Activities, County and State Recognitions
Dr. Gabriel Kengni is Director of the Academy of Information Technology (AOIT) and Department Chair of Information Technology at Wheaton High School. He is also an Online Professor at the University Phoenix Online. Wheaton High School (WHS) is one of the largest High Schools in the Downcounty Consortium (DCC)in Montgomery Coutny, Maryland. Dr. Kengni was appointed to the position at the end of 2006-2007 school year and since then he has been leading an ambitious reform designed to recruit and retain students in the AOIT. Dr. Kengni has given a new image to Wheaton High School through a new website http://montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/wheatonhs/ . Since 2003 Dr. Kengni is directing an ambitious comprehensive project designed to study the instructional values of technology gadgets and their usage by the Digital generation and their application in the classroom. He has been presenting on Paperless Classroom to educators across the county and the state. Dr. Kengni’s leadership has led to the WHS admiration by stakeholders – Students, parents, and school officials.
In recognition of his creative leadership in school improvement, classroom management design tool, AOIT recruitment and retention strategies, Dr. Kengni was recognized by the Principal and got a stand ovation by staff, administration, and stakeholders.
At the local and state levels Dr. Kengni has presented at conferences, workshops and seminars to educators, technology professionals, and associations on topics such as the psyche of the multitasking generation and the paperless classroom, digital divide, Online and distance learning, the benefit of website, and the use of electronic group.
At the state level, Dr. Kengni has consulted with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) where he worked on the Maryland Virtual Learning Opportunity (MVLO) program; a program designed to introduce Online learning into high school curriculum.
Dr. Kengni serves on the boards of various policy, cultural, and community organizations, he is President of Kemp Mill Civic Association, Board member of the Montgomery County Autism Society of America board, and the Haut-Nkam Cultural Association USA board chair.
Prior to be an educator, Dr. Kengni worked with corporations, the latest being The World Bank, Pulsar Data systems, and MCI WorldCom.
Education
Dr. Kengni received a Ph.D. in Computer Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a Master's in Management Information Systems from Bowies State University, Maryland, and a Bachelor's in Computer Science from the University of the District of Columbia, Washington D.C.
Foreign Language Experience: Dr. Kengni is fluent in French, a foreign language that he speaks fluently, reads and writes with ease. He also read and write Spanish
